faceting information, competition schedules and

news on what is happening in the world of
lapidary.

Annual Seminar: Takes place in September
and for many years was held
at Warwick in
Queensland, the birthplace of the Guild. The
2007 Seminar will be held at Allora, Queensland.
Annual Faceting Competition: This
competition is run by a different branch of the
Guild each year and is a level 3 competition
conducted in three divisions: Novice
Intermediate and Open. All entries are displayed
and results announced at the annual Seminar.
International Faceting Challenge: This
competition enables teams from around the world
to challenge each other to see which is the top
faceting nation. It is organized by the Guild
and run every two years, all entries are
displayed and the winners announced at the
Australian Gemboree. There is also an award for
the top individual champion.
Guild Branches: Each Australian State has
one or more branches or groups which meet
regularly to share ideas and advice. Some run
weekend workshops to help new members and to
advance their own skills. Active branches are a
vital part of the Guild, as they are in constant
touch with members in their area.
Gemstones: The Guild is very active in
promoting and protecting Australia's gemstone
resources and has lobbied the government where
necessary, providing input into the formulation
of new fossicking legislation and in
negotiations to protect rare gemstone
localities.
